The story behind the painting.
During WA’s long hot summer my bush walks are kept to the South West coastal fringes where sea breezes offer respite. By the time April rolls around I am eagerly anticipating my first inland bush walk of the season. At this time of year the ground is still warm and the sun still has a sting, the plants that fade or die back in summer have not yet regenerated and the ground is exposed. I painted this after venturing out into the bush in May. After a summer of white beach sands I am always thrilled by the colour of the red earth.
