Created with the printmaking technique of monotype, this work explores the feeling of summer heat and the respite offered by the ocean. Textures, forms and colours of our coastal landscape are depicted through mark making, multiple layers, line transfer and collage.
Unlike some forms of printmaking, where lines are carved/etched into a surface to produce repeatable images, monotype takes a different and more painterly approach. Ink is directly applied to a Perspex plate and manipulated using flexible implements. The plate is run through a press, transferring the image onto paper. Due to the nature of the process, only a single print can be pulled from each plate of Perspex.
