When exploring an area in a vehicle I like to be in the passenger seat scanning the horizon and reading the landscape. The landscape reads differently when we drive through it. In an instant we have seen so much. Driving slowly on rough sand tracks affords a more intimate experience. Plants blur past but we slow down enough to see the flowers as they brush the side of the car. Granite peaks loom, then disappear behind me in the side mirror. And then round the corner is the line of a salt lake shining in the distance. When travelling by car landscapes roll into one and this painting amalgamates one mornings views.
