The forest in the South West today is very different to what it once was. Many areas were once covered in huge trees. Sometimes when walking I come across an old tree that despite repeated fires, clearing and introduced disease is still standing, hanging in there and defying the odds. I feel a sense of reverence towards these scarred giants. This one near Northcliffe had burnt down to its large hollowed out stump and re-shot throwing new branches skyward. A symbol of hope and natures ability to renew itself.
