In 2015 a vast area of the Walpole Wilderness was affected by wildfire and I was saddened by the devastation. The Bibbulmun track winds its way through this vast area and my plans to walk here were put on hold. Visiting the area recently I was heartened by the regrowth and the abundance of flowers amongst the blackened trunks of trees that had struggled back to life. Life and death sit side by side, a reminder that the bush is always changing and evolving – be it for better or for worse.
